Public engagement
Skills and education
GSNI is committed to engaging with the public to increase awareness and understanding of geoscience and its relevance to everyday life. Through accessible communication, educational outreach, and collaborative initiatives, GSNI shares impartial, evidence-based information on topics such as natural resources, environmental change, and geohazards. These activities aim to inspire interest in the geoscience, support informed decision-making, and encourage wider participation in discussions about Northern Ireland’s natural environment.
Festivals and events
GSNI actively participates in a range of festivals and public events, including the NI Science Festival, to showcase its work and connect with diverse audiences. Through interactive activities, talks, workshops, and demonstrations, GSNI brings geoscience to life for people of all ages. These events provide an opportunity to highlight current research, promote scientific careers, and engage communities in conversations about key environmental and societal challenges.
Museums and exhibitions
GSNI contributes to permanent and temporary exhibitions in leading public venues such as W5 and the Ulster Museum. By providing scientific expertise, data, and interpretation, GSNI helps create engaging displays that communicate the geology and natural history of Northern Ireland. These collaborations enhance visitor experiences, making complex scientific topics accessible and fostering a deeper appreciation of the region’s geological heritage.
