Data and maps
The Geological Survey of Northern Ireland (GSNI) holds an extensive archive of maps, databases, geotechnical data, urban and regional geochemical and geophysical data, and physical collections.
Geological mapping
GSNI has produced geological maps for bedrock and superficial deposits at a range of scales.
GSNI Data Catalogue
The GSNI Data Catalogue portal provides search and filtering criteria with links to online resources.
GeoIndex
The GSNI GeoIndex online mapping portal displays GSNI data on a number of themes alongside Ordnance Survey of Northern Ireland topographical mapping and aerial photos and our 1:250 000 and 1:10 000 geological mapping.
WMS Services
GSNI provides a number of WMS services that can be viewed in GIS software such as ArcGIS, QGIS and MapInfo as well as CAD and geotechnical software such as Holebase SI.
OpenDataNI
GSNI publishes data under the Open Government Licence on the OpenDataNI website. This website contains OGL geological mapping and the Tellus geophysical and geochemical data. You can access our data on our organisation page.
Spatial NI
GSNI data can be viewed alongside other Northern Ireland public sector data on the SpatialNI website, provided by the Ordnance Survey of Northern Ireland.
AGS data deposit
GSNI encourages the donation of site investigation data in the AGS data transfer format. Find out more about accessing and depositing data in the AGS transfer format.
Geoscenic
GSNI's registered collection of geological photographs is available to view on the Geoscenic archival collection of photographs and slides, which are available for non-commercial use and private study.
Irish historical geological maps
A range of historical geological maps, sections and memoirs of Ireland, mostly from the 19th century.
