Minerals licensing
GSNI provides geoscience information and services to the minerals and petroleum branch of the Department for the Economy, which is responsible for prospecting and development licensing, exploration leases and engagement with local councils on local development plans.
Minerals policy development
We support the Department for the Economy in its review of minerals policy. Current legislation dates to the 1960s and the review is intended to ensure that the regimes remain fit for purpose.
Critical raw materials
GSNI is contributing to a national assessment of the UK's geological potential for critical raw materials, in support of the Department for the Economy's minerals policy development review. This will ultimately help to improve the resilience of the UK's critical mineral supply chain.
