External strategy and science advice

About GSNI

The GSNI Strategic Advisory Committee (SAC) provides expert guidance to the GSNI Director and senior leadership on shaping and delivering the organisation's science strategy and public role. It supports the development of science that meets Northern Ireland's needs, ensures research quality and impact are maximised, and advises on effective public engagement and communication. The Committee also guides strategic direction, partnerships, infrastructure, and commercial activities, while helping identify skills gaps and workforce needs. Additionally, it contributes to evaluating research quality and offers ad hoc advice to support the continued development and relevance of GSNI science.

The GSNI Science Stakeholder Group (SSG) exists to ensure that GSNI's research is strategically aligned, high-quality, and relevant to Northern Ireland's needs. It provides expert feedback on current research, identifies gaps and emerging priorities, and advises on future areas of focus across key themes such as energy, minerals, geohazards, and groundwater, helping to maximise the scientific, societal, and economic impact of GSNI's work.
