AGS data deposit
Data and maps
GSNI holds an extensive archive of site investigation information. While much of this information has been deposited with the GSNI in paper or PDF formats, it is recognised that digital AGS files enable better re-use of site investigation information.
In order to compile an accessible archive of digital site investigation information, the GSNI would be grateful to receive site investigation data in AGS file format and encourages you to deposited your data in the Natural Environment Research Council's (NERC) National Geoscience Data Centre (NGDC). The British Geological Survey (BGS) has developed guidelines and processes to enable the deposit of and re-access to AGS data.
Pan-government collaborative framework agreement for ground investigation works
The Department of Finance's Construction and Procurement Delivery (CPD) administers the pan-government collaborative framework agreement for ground investigation works. This framework can be used by public sector organisations in Northern Ireland to procure ground investigation works. As part of the framework's conditions and subject to the agreement of the public sector organisation procuring the works, framework contractors are required to deposit ground investigation data in the NGDC Portal.
Terms and conditions
It is GSNI and NGDC's policy that the ownership of the data is to remain with the owner and that, by depositing data through the NGDC portal, the NGDC is provided 'a non-exclusive, in-perpetuity licence to use and disseminate the data for all uses and re-uses'.
Data from the portal is all delivered under the terms of the Open Government Licence. Where data has originated from other organisations, it should be formally cited using the citation text provided or acknowledge that 'All copyright and other intellectual property rights are vested in the originators'.
